What is the IT Strategy?

IT strategy is a comprehensive plan that information technology management professionals use to guide their organizations. An IT strategy should cover all facets of technology management, including cost management, human capital management, hardware and software management, vendor management, risk management and all other considerations in the enterprise environment (What is IT strategy, 2012).

Why is it important?

The plan of IT strategy should be well developed by IT professionals to guide the organization in reaching their goals and gaining competitive advantage over their rivals. IT goals and business goals should be align to make better profit and enterprise's growth. IT strategy  is important to define the organization strategic plan that need to be followed in order to meet business objectives.

Do IT managers have to know it?

IT strategy drives the IT processes, which obtain resources necessary to execute their responsibilities. The IT processes report against these responsibilities on process outcome, performance, risks mitigated and accepted, and resources consumed. These reports should either confirm that the strategy is properly executed or provide indications that strategic redirection is required (IT Governance Institute, 2007). IT manager have to know what is the business goals and how to develop it with the organization strategic plan.
